The horseless vehicle: the car in the Netherlands a century ago is a collection of contributions on early cars in the Netherlands. It appeared on the occasion of the first car to arrive in the Netherlands a century ago, in 1896. From different perspectives, four authors (Ariejan Bos, Hans van Groningen, Gijs Mom and Vincent van der Vinne) shed light on the introduction of the car in the Netherlands. Vincent van der Vinne discusses entrepreneurs in a society in which the use of private, modern means of transportation commences. His contribution focusses on dealers in bicycles, motorcycles, cars and airplanes.
