About the author

portretDr. Vincent van der Vinne (1964) is a Dutch historian and writer, who completed his PhD on the rise of the motorcar. He has been studying the history of cars and car use for more than 25 years, and has published various books on the subject. Dr Van der Vinne worked for the “Nationaal Automobiel Museum” (nowadays known as the “Louwman Museum”), Autotron Rosmalen and Automusa.

Education

Completed thesis in 2007 on the influence of industry, consumers and government on the spread of cars in the Netherlands until 1940.

Finished university (social-economic history) in 1992 after completing a research project on the introduction of the automobile in the Netherlands.

Finished college in 1989 (history and geography teachers’ education ) after completing a research project on the introduction of the automobile in the Netherlands.

 

Work experience:

Columnist for newspaper De Telegraaf/Auto Visie (from 2011 to 2015).

Worked part time as a curator at the Autotron Drunen and the Automusa (two different car museums, from 2000 to 2003).

As a quest curator organized car exhibitions for various museums (Kunsthal Rotterdam, Autotron, Museum Select, respectively in 1998, 1999 and in 2000).

Was an advisor in the formation of various car collections.

Made valuations of classic cars (from 1994 to 1998).

Wrote for two classic car magazines in the Netherlands (from 1994 to 2000).

Worked at the “Nationaal Automobiel Museum”, nowadays known as the “Louwman Museum” (from 1990 to 1994).

In honderd jaar van Auto-Palace naar Autobinck Holding (2007): A research into the history of Autobinck Holding, one of the last private importers of cars. This was their 100 years anniversary book.

Gallery of dreams (2001): A book to mark the 25th anniversary of Automusa.

Eysink, van fiets tot motorfiets (2001): A research project on the history of Eysink, the largest motorcycle factory in the Netherlands (before 1940). The company also made motorcars and bicycles.

Spyker 1898-1926 (1998): A research project on the history of Spyker, the largest car factory in the Netherlands (before 1940).

Het paardloze voertuig (1996): A book about the introduction of the car in the Netherlands (co writer).

De elektro-auto: een paard van Troje? (1995): A book about the history of the electric car (co writer).
